The Direct File Subcommittee concluded its work, conducting meetings from September 2008 to October 2009. The Commission created the Direct File Subcommittee to explore the issues surrounding "direct file" and whether there was consensus to propose reforms.
A juvenile may be removed from the jurisdiction of the juvenile justice system for trial in two ways: direct file or transfer. "Direct file" refers to the removal by a district attorney of a juvenile from the jurisdiction of the juvenile justice system by the filing of charges in a district court of the adult justice system. A "transfer" may be ordered by the court to remove a juvenile case from the juvenile justice system to the adult justice system (district court).In both cases, once removed to a district court, the juvenile is tried as an adult.
